Hotspot Question Type

Hotspot Question Type

In order to provide the same features we currently have on Learn original, the goal of redesign this feature was not only provide feature parity but also a better experience regarding the hotspot question types for assessments.

I analyzed the main user scenarios, competitive market, basic requirements, accessibility AAA compliance, scope, and feasibility.

My Role

User Experience / Product Designer

Deliverables

Figma mockup, Requirements definition

Tools

Figma, User Testing

Use case

Feature redesign and refactoring to update old functionality in previous versions of the learning management system to meet new market and user requirements.

Challenges

  • Provide feature parity and a better experience regarding the feature.

  • Identify main user scenarios and user needs.

  • Competitive market.

  • Basic requirements, scope, and feasibility.

Understanding the problem

To provide feature parity and enhance user experience, it's crucial to identify primary user scenarios and needs within a competitive market. I listed user scenarios and validated specific needs and usability issues through thorough research.

I considered user expectations and addressed edge cases and special requirements. By keeping technical guides in mind, I ensured the project's feasibility and scope, ultimately delivering a well-rounded and user-centric solution.

  • List user scenarios.

  • Validate specific need and usability issues.

  • User expectations.

  • Edge or special cases.

  • Technical guides to have in mind.

User Test

After finalizing scenario analysis and wireframes, I prepared a first mockup prototype to be tested with some instructors to understand.
It gave us a better understanding of what are some of the specific need our users have, what they expect from the features, edge or special cases that may come up during an assessment, and technical guides to have in mind.

Exploring and creating

With all the findings and insights in mind, the feature was broken down into several milestones to be developed and delivered to end users.

We kept an eye on providing accessibility compliance regarding the tool users will user when building a hotspot question type.

  • Definition of milestones to develop and deliver.

  • Desktop and mobile view - web platform.

  • Accessibility:

    • New grid option for users with dexterity and mobility issues.

    • Aiming for AAA level compliance.

    • Color blind test for selected areas.

    • Keyboard commands to control tools.

    • Move and resize options.

    • Screen reader AX compliance.

    • Expanded view on mobile

    • Keyboard shortcuts and annotations to guide developers.

Materializing

I work along with development team to ake sure all fundamental requirements were included in the development of the feature.
